Pre-story:
Gaara sobbed as he held the lifeless body in his arms. She had been there for him. He had ended her life. He regretted ever meeting her, only because he had to feel the pain of losing her.
-------------------------------------------------------
Naminea Herotin walked along the road as she was pelted by sand. Her father had been assigned to the sand village. She would live there until he was assigned elsewhere. That is how it had always been. That was the reason why her ninja headband had many villages on it, soon to be joined by the land of the sand’s emblem. This was the trademark of the herotinabi clan; training in learning in so many villages that they became a member of each one. She sighed to herself. “Well, time to go make new friends.” She laughed. She had never had any real friends in the six years of her life. “All the kids are afraid of me….”
Naminea continued walking until she reached the desolate outskirts of town. She saw a group of kids nearby, playing ball. She ran forward to watch the game. The kids noticed. “Who are you?” one little girl asked kindly. She then stepped back as she saw
Naminea’s headband. “You’re a herotinabi,” she squealed. Naminea nodded. “Naminea Herotin. Nice to meet you.” The kids stepped back. “You can’t play with us!” “May I please watch?” The kids hesitated. “Ok…but from over there.” Naminea ignored the scared looks and walked over to the spot where the kids had pointed.
She sat down, and the game commenced. It was going well, that is, until the ball got stuck on a giant wall of sand. “None of us know any wall-climbing jutsu.” The kids moaned. Nam noticed a young boy watching the game. He ran forward. “I can help!” He yelled. The kids screamed. “Gaara of the Sand! Stay back you monster!” The kids began to run. Gaara started to cry. “Why won’t you let me play?” He sobbed, “Please stay! Don’t go!” Pillars of sand surged forward towards the kids. The sand seemed to be controlled by the little boy, Gaara. The pillars hit some of the kids. They were dragged back, screaming. Naminea stepped forward. “Please stop, you’re hurting them! ”
She used what she knew of sand jutsu to push away the sand pillars. The kids were released. Gaara turned to Naminea. “Why?” He yelled. “They won’t stop calling me a monster!” He caused the sand to charge Naminea. She dodged. The attacks continued until, finally, the sand smacked her down. It engulfed her, suffocating her. A woman stepped forward. “Gaara, STOP!” she screamed. Sand hit her arm. Gaara dropped the sand. The kids ran, carrying their injured. Naminea fell to the ground and blacked out. The last thing she saw was Gaara, standing there, crying.
Naminea woke up in a bed, in a house she didn’t recognize. The lady from earlier was cleaning up the room. She turned to Naminea and tenderly smiled. “Your father was out on business again. I didn’t want to leave you all alone.” Naminea observed her surroundings. “Where is…Gaara?” she asked, not knowing if she was correct. “That’s his name,” the lady said, “He’s out apologizing. You can leave if you don’t want to see him.” Naminea shook her head. “I want to meet him.”
Just at that moment, Gaara stormed in. He shrunk back when he saw Naminea sitting on the bed. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt you.” He walked over, slowly. He attempted to observe the cuts the sand had made earlier, but they were gone. He looked up at Naminea, clearly surprised. She smiled. “I’m a really fast healer.”
Gaara and Naminea walked down the sandy path. In the past few days, the had become inseparable. “Nam, whatcha wanna do now?” Gaara had begun to call her Nam instead of Naminea. “My dad says I have to train.” Gaara laughed. “We can work on your sand again!” They walked over to their training ground, outside of town. “You can work on your healing.” Nam added. Gaara smiled. “I’ll help you…” Nam finished, “And you’ll help me.” They laughed and raced to the empty sand patch. “Let’s begin.”
